Mahalo to more than 300 anglers who participated in Huggo’s 17th Annual Wahine Fishing Tournament on Saturday July 28, 2012. The Wahine Tournament raised $10,000 for Family Support Services of Hawaii.
We were delighted with the turn-out, the great sportsmanship, and competitive fun — all for a great cause. More than 75 boats were in action this year with a total of 24 marlin hooked.
Here are the results of the 2012 Wahine Tournament:
#1. First Place Biggest Fish Overall: 401 pounds
The winning team boated there fish at 12:55 PM and weighed 401 pounds. The fish was caught by team #34 “Congo My Bongo’s” on board the “Alibi”, caught by angler Libby Snider. Team members where Alana Adams, Jackie Trask, Taylar Terrazaz with Captain Trevor Child and Crew Nick Atkins
#2. Second Place total Points: 600 points
The second place team had 600 points with two fish caught by team #54 “Foxy Seafari” the two fish estimated 150 and 175 lb blue marlin was released by anglers Jada Van Mols, on the fishing boat Foxy Lady, with Captain Boyd DeCoito, and the second fish was released by Chelsea Mata. The time they released the first fish was at 8:51 AM and the second fish was 10:29 AM Team members are Rebekah Pyne, Nicolette Palacol, Saraiah Mata, Ashton Lattof with Captain Boyd Decoito and crew Matt Losasso
#3. Third Place Total Points: 600 points
The third place Total Points award had 600 points by team #50 “Don’t be a Cheatah”, the two released fish estimated to be 200 lb-pound blue marlin was released by angler Melissa Nitta, and Tanya Posey, on the fishing boat Lepika at 8:45 AM and the second one at 11:44 AM. Team members Sheri Denis, Jill Spanel, Rose McKinnon with Captain Russ Nitta
#4. Fourth Place Total Points: 600 points
The fourth place Total points award had 600 points for two billfish released by team #19 “Reel Wahine Hunters” on board the Bite Me 1. Angler Diane Page released the estimated 120 pound fish at 10:05 AM, and also released an estimated 280 pound blue at 1:30 PM Team mates are Juana Moya, Lorena Sisneros, Sierra Tobiason, Pam Contessa, Captain Chad Contessa, and crew Sandy Contessa,
#5 Fifth Place Total Points: 600 points
The fifth place Total points award had 600 points for two billfish released by team #38 “Wild Things” on board the Makanalani. Angler Kailani Barksdale caught the estimated 200 pound fish at 11:02 Am and team mate Michelle Austin released an estimated 175 pound blue at 1:33 PM. Team mates where Jennifer Graves, Tesha Hall, Captain Kenny Fogarty and crew Dustin Winkel.
***Biggest Ahi: Yellowfin tuna caught by Team #56 on the Boat Bill Me. Angler Nicole War caught a really nice 48.5 pound Ahi.
***Mother Daughter Award: Angler on Team #20 Michelle Shimamoto and Cera Shimamoto fishing on board the “Huntress” boated the FIRST Mother Daughter catch of the day, an estimated 150 pound Blue Marlin.
