On the Rocks welcomed two new managers to its team last month – Tim Criswell and Star Shortt.
Tim re-located to Hawaii in 2010 from Whidbey Island, Washington, but he’s no
stranger to the Big Island. He called Kona home from the time he was 5 years old until he left to study at University of Montana. He graduated with a degree in business with a focus on hospitality and spent more than eight years in the restaurant business in the Pacific Northwest before returning to his island home. “On the Rocks is part of a great family-owned group of restaurants here on Hawaii Island, and when I saw they had a management opening, I just knew this was the right fit for me,” Tim says.
Star worked his way up from food runner and bartender at both Huggo’s and On the Rocks (OTR) to manager at OTR in just seven short months. Not much of a surprise since this engetic dynamo says he was born into the hospitality business with a father (a restaurant executive in Kailua-Kona) who had him bussing tables at one of his establishments when he was just 14 years old. He’s a self-proclaimed people person and loves welcoming guests and ensuring they have a great time. “I enjoy meeting new people and extending a warm aloha to all who join us at On the Rocks,” he says. Prior to joining the team at On the Rocks, Star was the general manager at Oceans Sports Bar in Kailua-Kona and bar manager at Kenichi Pacific in nearby Keauhou.
Be sure to say hello to both Star and Tim the next time you visit On the Rocks – we all look forward to seeing you soon!
